Greensleeves |
---|
Alas, my love, you do me wrong, To cast me off discourteously; And I have loved you so long, Delighting in your company. Greensleeves was all my joy, Greensleeves was my delight; Greensleeves was my heart of gold, And who but my lady greensleeves. I have been ready at your hand, To grant whatever you would crave; I have both waged life and land. Your love and goodwill for to have. I bought thee petticoats of the best, The cloth so fine as fine might be; I gave thee jewels for my chest, And all this cost I spent on thee. Well I will pray to God on high; That thou my constancy mayst see, For I am still thy lover true. Come once again and love me. |

It was a lover and his lass, With a hey, and a ho, and a hey nonny no, That o'er the green cornfields did pass, In spring time, the only pretty ring time, When birds do sing, hey ding a ding, ding; Sweet lovers love the spring. Between the acres of the rye, With a hey, and a ho, and a hey nonny no, Those pretty country folks would lie, In spring time, the only pretty ring time, When birds do sing, hey ding a ding, ding; Sweet lovers love the spring. This carol they began that hour, With a hey, and a ho, and a hey nonny no, How that a life was but a flower, In spring time, the only pretty ring time, When birds do sing, hey ding a ding, ding; Sweet lovers love the spring. And therefore take the present time, With a hey, and a ho, and a hey nonny no, For love is crowned with the prime, In spring time, the only pretty ring time, When birds do sing, hey ding a ding, ding; Sweet lovers love the spring. |

Thomas Morley <As you like it トマス・モーリーの <The first Books of Ayres, To Sing and Play to the Lute 歌とリュートのためのエアー集第1巻>の第6番として1600年に刊行された。 |
The Wind and the Rain |
---|
When that I was and a little tiny boy, With hey, ho, the wind and the rain, A foolish thing was but a toy, For the rain it raineth every day. But when I came to man's estate, With hey, ho, the wind and the rain, 'Gainst knaves and thieves men shut their gate, For the rain it raineth every day. But when alas I came to wive, By swaggering could I never thrive, But when I came unto my beds, With toss-pots still had drunken heads, A great while ago the world begun, With hey, ho, the wind and the rain, But that’s all one, our play is done, And we'll strive to please you every day. |

The Willow Song (柳の歌) |
---|
The poor soul sat sighing by a sycamore tree; Sing willow, willow, willow; With his hand in his bosom, and his head upon his knee; O, willow, willow, willow, willow, O, willow, willow, willow, willow shall be my garland. Sing all a green willow, willow, willow, willow! Ay me, the green willow must be my garland. He sighed in his singing and made a great moan, I am dead to all pleasure, my true love she is gone. Come all you forsaken, and mourn you with me; Who speaks of a false love, mine's falser than she. Take this for my farewell and latest adieu; Write this on my tomb, that in love I was true. |

Full Fathom Five |

Full fathom five thy father lies; Of his bones are coral made; Those are pearls that were his eyes: Nothing of him that doth fade, But doth suffer a sea-change Into something rich and strange. Sea nymphs hourly ring his knell. Hark! Now I hear them, Ding dong bell. |

How should I your true love know? |
---|
How should I your true love know From another one? By his cockle hat and staff, And his sandal shoon. He is dead and gone, lady, He is dead and gone; And his head a grass-green turf, At his heels a stone. White his shroud as the mountain snow, Larded with sweet flowers; Which bewept to the grave did go With his true-love showers. |

"The Wind and the Rain"は、当時よく口遊んでいて、「十二夜」の道化フェステが歌う歌として、今でも少しは覚えているが、若い人物が 歌っているようなイメージをずっと持ち続けてきたように思う。 【2022/07/05】 |
